Taiwan Bans Civil Servants from Using DeepSeek

The use of the DeepSeek R1 model will soon be supported on Copilot+ PCs with this Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) model seen as an alternative that Apple will use to support Siri in China in the future. Although the number of users of this chatbot is high enough to make it the number one application on the App Store, Taiwan has banned civil servants from using it for security reasonsTaiwan's Ministry of Digital Affairs said that civil servants and critical infrastructure facilities should not use DeepSeek because there is cross-border transmission and information leakage that could endanger the country's information security. DeepSeek user data through the application is sent to a browser located in China. This is the reason why Microsoft will support DeepSeek R1 on Copilot+ PCs which allows it to be run directly from a computer without an internet connection. Data will not be sent to the browser while ensuring the security of user privacy.
