New Glenn Rocket Successfully Launched as Falcon 9 Competitor
Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin aerospace company finally successfully launched their latest rocket, New Glenn, today from Cape Canaveral, United States. This is the second rocket developed by Blue Origin and is 98 meters tall, making it larger than the Space X Falcon 9 rocket. Each rocket is also capable of carrying cargo up to 45 metric tons to low-Earth orbit (LEO).Its capacity is higher than the New Shepard rocket used by Blue Origin to launch tourists into space but still below the capacity of the SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. The NG-1 mission has recently been postponed twice due to various issues. It was originally supposed to launch on January 10 but was postponed due to rough seas before being canceled again on January 13 due to ice issues.Like New Glenn and Falcon 9, New Shepard is able to return to Earth after the cargo is launched. In today's mission, a Blue Ring test spacecraft was successfully sent into orbit. New Shepard returned to Earth but failed to land on a platform on the ocean surface.Although Blue Origin is their competitor, Elon Musk as SpaceX CEO congratulated them on the success of the NG-1 mission. Blue Origin will use New Glenn to send their Project Kuiper satellites that offer satellite internet services. In addition, they also received a NASA contract to launch two ESCAPADE space probes to Mars.
