MIMOS Will Integrate Worldcoin's Biometric Technology Into Malaysia's Digital Infrastructure

MIMOS Berhad last weekend signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Worldcoin Foundation, Tools for Humanity (TFH) and MyEG to integrate Worldcoin's biometric identity verification system into Malaysia's digital infrastructure.Through this MoU, TFH's pupil scanning technology and Worldcoin's blockchain will be used to confirm the identity of users online, which is seen to be an important issue in verifying that users are human in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). In addition it will also look at potential collaborations supporting Worldcoin in the national blockchain as well as manufacturers of biometric scan globes in the country.Worldcoin uses a globe-shaped device with a built-in pupil scanner for this verification process. So far according to Worldcoin a total of 6,481,410 individuals have registered using their biometric system in Europe and Latin America. Worldcoin sees their World ID digital identity system to be used as a global standard for verifying identity in the future.Worldcoin is a Tools For Humanity project founded by Sam Altman, Max Novendstern and Alex Blania in 2019 as a way to directly fund Universal Basic Income (UBI). It is one of the experiments looking at the effectiveness of UBI conducted by Sam Altman.The project however was hit by some controversies regarding privacy, and the storage of users' biometric data. Due to this issue data collection in Portugal, Spain, Hong Kong and Kenya has been stopped. Meanwhile, investigations have been initiated by personal data authorities in the UK, France and South Korea regarding the security of Worldcoin user data.
