YouTube Will Have AI-Generated Fake Face and Voice Detection Tools

The ability of artificial intelligence (AI) to produce fake videos and audios is now very formidable because it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish the fake from the original. On YouTube there is already a problem with fake videos featuring celebrities and influencers produced using AI. Before it gets any worse, YouTube says they are developing some tools that will detect these fake videos and audios. The first tool will detect AI-generated synthetic audio using a specific singer's voice using existing Content ID technology. So if there is an AI video produced using the original singer's voice it can detect it quickly. The technology is still being refined and will be tested starting in 2025.The second tool can detect the faces of artists, celebrities, actors, sportsmen and influencers from being used in AI-generated videos. This facial recognition system is expected to quickly detect fake video content on YouTube before it has a negative impact on the owner of the face.So far only YouTube has announced synthetic video and audio detection features. Other platforms are still defaulting and this is troubling because with existing AI technology many are already fooled by fake content that tries to create a negative narrative. YouTube has already required AI content to be labeled since last year but it still has to be done voluntarily by account owners.
