Samsung, Google and Qualcomm's MR Headsets Will Be Connected to Smartphones

Last year Samsung announced a partnership with Google and Qualcomm to develop a pair of augmented reality (MR) headsets. After a year it still hasn't shown up with reports saying the headset was delayed after the Apple Vision Pro was announced. All three companies returned to the design table to produce new devices that are expected to give competition to Apple. This morning Qualcomm CEO, Cristiano Amon in an interview with CNBC revealed that the MR headset being developed will be connected to a smartphone and not a standalone headset like the Meta Quest and Vision Pro.This may have been a wiser move as Vision Pro sales plummeted after launch and this was not helped by its exorbitant selling price. Samsung previously offered a Galaxy Gear VR headset that uses a smartphone as a screen and processing power.Amon gave little indication that the new headset being developed is smart glasses. Apple is also believed to be developing smart glasses that are more affordable than the Vision Pro. The mystery about this device will probably only be revealed next year when it is officially launched.
