Apple Ordered To Pay €13 Billion In Taxes To Ireland
Apple now has to pay €13 billion (~RM 62 billion) in taxes to Ireland after the Court of Justice of the European Union found that the original decision of the European Commission (EC) to pay it in 2016 should continue. This is because the EC found that Ireland gave tax relief to Apple between 1991 and 2014 which it said was unfair to other companies.After the order was given in 2016, Apple appealed and the Supreme Court of the European Union overturned it because the EC failed to prove that Apple received special treatment from Ireland from a tax point of view. The EC appealed again and the Court of Justice of the European Union agreed with the original 2016 decision.Apple issued a statement that they were disappointed with today's decision because before the Supreme Court reviewed the facts and overturned this case absolutely and insisted that they never had a special agreement.
