AMD has shown off their Zen 5 processing chip for the notebook series through the Strix Point series, which consists of the AMD Ryzen AI 300 chip that currently powers a number of powerful notebooks to date. However, one issue with these laptops is their expensive price tag, and typically these chips are only featured in powerful gaming laptops. For this, AMD has also confirmed that they are developing a new series of processing chips called Crackan Point for laptops with more affordable prices.Using the same Zen 5 processing technology, AMD Crackan Point is expected to power mid-range and affordable laptops in the $799 (~RM3500) price range, and will be introduced around early next year, possibly around the CES 2025 event.According to Tom's Hardware report, Krackan Point will appear with eight physical cores consisting of four performance cores and four efficiency cores and will use the same RDNA 3.5 graphics chip used in the Strix Point processing chip. For now, the speed of these processing chips is still unknown. In terms of AI capabilities, it is expected that this processing chip, just like the Strix Point will come with TOPS AI capabilities that will allow it to use the Copilot+ PC label by Microsoft. What's interesting about this is that it also means that it's likely we'll see affordable AI laptops on the market soon.
