Anthropic is changing its Claude subscription policy to no longer support usage for third-party applications such as OpenClaw. Access to Claude via OpenClaw was blocked at 3am Malaysia time with the announcement made by Boris Cherny, the creator of Claude Code, via his X account.Users can still access Claude via third-party tools by purchasing additional usage packages that are now offered at a discounted price or by using a Claude API key. Existing customers will receive a one-time credit equal to the cost of their monthly plan. If that is still not enough, customers can request a full refund via a link that will be sent to their email. The popularity of OpenClaw has caused Claude to experience a high increase in demand. Claude's existing subscription plans are not designed to support the use of third-party tools like it. Anthropic is now prioritizing customers who use their official products and APIs for the sake of long-term operational sustainability.Since a week ago, Anthropic has started imposing various restrictions on the use of Claude Code during peak hours. The explosion of OpenClaw usage, particularly to support AI agent systems and speech, has led to drastic measures being taken today.
