RCS Messages on iPhone Now Support End-to-End Encryption

Messages sent via RCS now use end-to-end encryption (E2EE) today for iPhone users. It was made available via the iOS 26.5 update, which is still in beta but is enabled by default after devices are updated. The E2EE feature is finally supported on iPhones as a result of Apple and Google’s collaboration to make RCS the modern messaging standard that replaces SMS. For Android users, RCS with E2EE can be enjoyed using the latest version of Google Messages.Encrypted messages will have a locked padlock icon on the message screen. While RCS is now supported on iPhones, Apple still insists that iMessage remains the most secure method of communication between Apple devices because it has long supported E2EE.
