WhatsApp Is Testing Guest Chats Feature for Accountless Chatting

Whether we realize it or not, previously users who did not have a WhatsApp account would be labeled as “no account” and they had to download the app first to join the conversation. However, with the new update that is coming, this process has become easier as guests can now directly enter the conversation without having to create an account first.WhatsApp is currently testing the Guest Chats feature for beta users on Android and iOS. Through this function, users can generate an invitation link to start a conversation with individuals who do not have a WhatsApp account. Guests only need to open the link through a browser without having to install the app and thus they can chat directly with the WhatsApp user.This feature is developed with end-to-end encryption (E2EE) where only the participants in the conversation can read the messages sent. However, Guest Chats have some limitations because they are designed specifically for temporary use.Among them, guests cannot join groups, send media such as photos or videos, and they also cannot make voice or video calls. Instead, they can only send basic text messages, keeping the feature simple but safe for temporary communication.Additionally, Guest Chats will automatically expire after 10 days of inactivity, and users will need to generate a new link if they want to continue the conversation. To maintain full control, WhatsApp also provides the option to block guests, just like blocking regular accounts, so that users can always manage their conversations more safely and organized.As of this writing, the Guest Chats feature is only being offered to select beta users first and it is not yet certain when it will be officially launched for all users.
