The Aerotrain service at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 resumed operations on July 1. Although the new train has only just been operational, it has experienced several incidents of service disruptions that have angered passengers. In this morning's incident, the Aerotrain was delayed between the satellite terminals of KLIA Terminal 1, leaving passengers stranded and forced to walk back to safety. In a post by Fahmi Yumi @kaiyumi42 on X, passengers were seen lifting luggage in the dark and having to walk on a concrete path between two train tracks. This is not only a safety hazard but also makes it difficult for passengers with small children and the elderly. The Aerotrain has been out of service since March 2023 due to various damage issues as it is too old. It began operations in 1998 by connecting the main terminal with the satellite terminal A. The Aerotrain upgrade cost RM456 million. Since its relaunch, it has been delayed 20 times. In its 25-year history of operation, there have been several incidents of breakdowns that have caused operations to be temporarily suspended. Since the suspension of operations to go to Satellite Terminal A, ordinary passengers have to take buses while luxury vehicle services are offered to business class passengers.Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad announced last year that the Aerotrain would be replaced on 31 January. The project involves MAHB, Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd, Alstom Transport Systems Sdn Bhd and a joint venture between IJM Construction Sdn Bhd and Pestech Technology Sdn Bhd.
