President Xi Proposes Establishment of Global AI Organization

Chinese President Xi Jinping has proposed the establishment of a Global Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization to govern artificial intelligence (AI) and promote international cooperation for the benefit of the international community. The organization is seen as China's attempt to become an alternative to the United States in trade cooperation and economic development, with its headquarters in Shanghai. At the APEC conference this week, President Xi also called on APEC to support the free flow of green technologies such as batteries and solar panels.Unlike China, the United States is not interested in controlling the development of AI technology, despite calls from experts for it to be slowed down until we know the risks to human civilization. Among the short-term concerns is that AI will take over human jobs, causing socio-economic issues. The long-term concern is that AI could lead to human extinction.
