957 Cases of Child Indecent Content Detected Throughout 2025

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) recently announced that they have detected 957 cases of social media content involving children throughout 2025 from 1 January 2025 to 30 November 2025.According to a Bernama report, out of the 957 cases, 899 of the content has been successfully deleted from social media platforms, with the fastest-cooperating platforms being Tumblr, TikTok and Facebook.This is part of the Ops Pedo operation that has been underway since the end of 2024, where MCMC is working with the Royal Malaysian Police to track down and arrest providers of child sexual abuse content. So far, it has been reported that 13 individuals and over 40,000 pieces of child sexual abuse content have been found so far.Ops Pedo 2.0, which was conducted from 22 to 30 September 2025, has successfully arrested 31 individuals in 37 identified locations and involved various types of individuals from school teachers to foreign immigrants in Malaysia.In the meantime, the Safe Internet Campaign that was conducted has also succeeded in raising awareness among students, teachers, parents and local communities about the dangers of child sexual abuse content at the grassroots level.The government is also seen preparing to introduce the Online Safety Act 2025 (ONSA 2025) which includes the obligation to set an age limit of 16 years and above when Malaysian individuals want to register a new social media account and introduce various new frameworks and laws to ensure the digital and online safety of the public.
