As 2025 draws to a close and in keeping with the year-end theme, we’ve listed 10 services and devices that will be discontinued this year. This year saw the end of internet service Streamyx, postal services in Denmark, Windows 11 and more.1. Windows 10On October 14, support for Windows 10 was officially ended by Microsoft. PCs with Windows 10 can still be used as usual but will no longer receive any new feature updates or security patches.Users with equipment that meets the minimum requirements are encouraged to upgrade the operating system to Windows 11 immediately. If your PC does not pass this, you are given the option to join Windows 10 ESU (Extended Security Updates) which provides security updates until October 13, 2026 only.Microsoft's decision to end support for Windows 10 has been criticized because around 41% of the world's PCs are still using the operating system that was launched more than 10 years ago. Dell also revealed that there are still 1 billion PCs still using Windows 10 with 500 million PCs that can be upgraded to Window 11 but owners refuse to do so.2. StreamyxStreamyxTelekom Malaysia is ending the Streamyx /Unifi Lite service, after a termination notice was issued on March 18, 2025. TM's official website displays a notice of the upgrade of Streamx / Unifi Lite to Unifi Broadband. Streamyx is one of the internet services that started faster internet access, before the arrival of the fiber-optic internet era.Streamyx has been offered since 2001 and when it was launched it came with a 384kbps speed package, unlimited voice calls to home phones, unlimited internet access unlike dial-up which had to be paid based on usage. It also came with an @streamyx.com email account which was also used by many at one time. This email service was terminated by TM earlier.Streamyx used to offer speeds of up to 8Mbps using a fixed-line connection. Telekom Malaysia then began introducing fiber-based internet services since 2010 under the Unifi brand. With the termination of Streamyx, it joins several Telekom Malaysia brands that have been buried such as Bluehyppo.3. Celcom Life and MyDigiThe Celcom Life and MyDigi applications will be terminated on December 31st with users having to migrate to the new CelcomDigi application. This latest application is ready to be used by customers of the telecommunications service where they register new numbers, pay monthly phone bills, buy new smart devices or subscribe to their favorite streaming services from just one application. It was built based on input from 10 million customers, which has now increased to over 20 million customers and 100 thousand beta testers when developed, and the result is what can be seen today. In parallel with the termination of Celcom Life and MyDigi services, customers have been asked to migrate to the CelcomDigi application. But the process ran into problems yesterday with customers complaining about not receiving OTPs, being asked to re-register and the app not offering a way to continue the login process.4. SkypeMicrosoft ended the popular video calling service Skype on May 5 after buying it 14 years ago, with Skype users given 10 weeks to migrate their data to Microsoft Teams.Skype's demise was widely predicted after Microsoft Teams was launched. Among the steps taken were reducing Skype updates and introducing new features. Before 2020, Skype was a video conferencing app with over 200 million monthly users, holding around 32% of the market. But during the pandemic, Zoom and Google Meet became the choice because of their ability to accommodate more users. Before being discontinued, Skype had around 40 million monthly users.5. macOS Support On Intel Mac ComputersmacOS Tahoe 26 is the latest version of Apple's computer operating system released this year. But Apple confirmed that macOS Tahoe 26 is the last operating system to support Macs that use Intel chips. After this, macOS 27 will only support Macs with Apple Silicon. This is not surprising since Apple itself stopped selling Macs with Intel chips a few years ago.Different operating system and processing requirements mean that Macs with Intel chips will no longer receive new versions. But like all of their hardware, Apple will still provide regular security patch updates.6. PocketMozilla has unexpectedly announced that it will be shutting down Pocket on July 8, 2025. Pocket is a service that lets you save links to websites to read later.Mozilla acquired Pocket in 2017. They say users have saved millions of articles through Pocket, but the way people use and browse the web has changed in recent years. Existing Pocket users will no longer be able to export their data as it was shut down on October 8.7. Danish Post to Stop Mail Delivery After Over 400 YearsDanish national postal company PostNord is to stop delivering mail at the end of 2025 due to declining demand as Danes increasingly rely on digital messaging services that are easier and faster to use.PostNord's decision will end the letter delivery service they have offered in Denmark since 1624. The number of letters sent in Denmark has decreased by 90% from 1.4 billion in 2000 to only 110 million by 2024. The letter delivery service will be taken over by DAO, a private company.Due to the termination of this service, more than 1000 PostNord employees will lose their jobs. Letters will no longer be delivered starting in 2026 but PostNord is increasing its parcel delivery service, which is increasingly profitable due to the popularity of online shopping post-pandemic.8. AOL Dial UpIt's not just Streamyx that went under this year, America Online (AOL), the operator of the internet network and various online services in the United States, has recently announced that they will end their dial-up internet offering at the end of September 2025.AOL has offered dial-up internet services since 1991, and for 34 years has maintained it as the world has moved to much faster broadband and fiber optic connections. In fact, today it can be seen that mobile internet connections have also left behind the slow internet speed.Malaysia has already ended the 1515 and other narrowband internet offerings since October 2017 through Telekom Malaysia, where residents in Malaysia now all enjoy fast internet connections via fiber optics and 4G and 5G mobile networks.9.
