Rats Successfully Taught to Shoot in Computer Game DOOM

DOOM is a legendary first-person shooter computer game that is now used as an example of how a computer game can be played on a variety of computers, small or large.In 2021, a motion tracker was developed to allow laboratory rats to move around in the game. The experiment was successful, but the experiment's developer, Viktor Tóth, had to return home, and was only able to continue the experiment recently.For this latest experiment, the motion tracker was upgraded with a curved OLED AMOLED screen display with 1080p resolution and a viewing angle of 180 degrees horizontally and 80 degrees vertically to simulate a full view.This latest experiment also introduced a shooting mechanism that the rats (Todd, Kojima, Gabe) could activate when they encountered enemies that needed to be defeated. Depending on how far the rats managed to overcome various obstacles in the game, an incentive mechanism through sugar water was also introduced as a reward for the rats.So far, the rats seem to have managed to figure out how to move around in the game and use the shooting mechanism, which took two weeks to learn.To learn more about this experiment, and how you can get involved, you can visit the Rats Play DOOM website.
