Threads Has More Users Than X On Smartphone Apps

Which is more popular, X (formerly Twitter) or Threads? As far as we know in Malaysia, Threads is more popular because it prioritizes local conversation topics and content without being tainted by the political garbage of the angry farmers of the United States. According to the latest data from Similarweb, at the beginning of this month, Threads had 141.5 million daily active users (DAU) on the smartphone app compared to X which has 125 million DAU.Meanwhile, if the usage data via the website is taken only, Threads has 7.7 million DAU compared to X with 140.7 million DAU. Although X still has more DAU overall, its usage on smartphone apps has now been overtaken by Threads.The increase in Threads usage was driven by the Grok controversy over unauthorized pornographic images on X which led to it being blocked in several countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia. An investigation was also conducted until Grok was forced to disable the indecent image generation feature for all users last week to avoid being sued.
