A total of 12 policemen, including officers from the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK), were arrested on suspicion of committing a robbery involving crypto worth around RM200,000 on February 5. The suspects were conducting an anti-fraud operation Op Taring and had arrested 8 Chinese nationals at a house in Kajang.The Chinese nationals who were arrested claimed that they were threatened with detention or immigration action. The policemen allegedly demanded RM400,000 to “release” them before agreeing to receive USDT 50,000 (~RM 195,000) into the crypto wallet they provided. The police only left after the transaction was confirmed. After checking the devices and passports, no evidence of a crime was found.The arrested policemen were an ASP, an inspector, a sergeant, six corporals, two lance corporals and a constable aged between 24 and 47. The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code (gang robbery). The remand was approved by the court before they were released on bail.
