LRT 3 Line to Start Operations Before June 2026

Transport Minister Anthony Loke today said that the LRT 3 service, or officially known as the Shah Alam LRT, will start operations before June 2026 after it missed the December 31 deadline announced last November. According to Loke, all testing, commissioning and resolution of technical issues will be completed within the next one to two months.So far, two groups of trains involving 14 out of 22 trains have completed the Fault Free Run test while another group comprising eight trains is still in the process of undergoing the test for 22 days. This test requires each train to travel at least 4,000 km without any errors.The Shah Alam LRT line is the fourth transit rail service in the Klang Valley and will be operated by Rapid KL. The line will have 25 stations, which for the first time are located outside the boundaries of Kuala Lumpur City. It connects Bandar Utama station in Petaling with Johan Setia station in Klang.The construction of this route cost RM21.93 billion, which is lower than the original estimated cost of RM31.65 billion when approved in 2015. When operational, it will be able to carry up to 39,260 passengers per hour.
