Micron Introduces 3GB GDDR7 Memory With 36Gb/s Speed

The latest GDDR7 memory is seen in a number of NVIDIA graphics card components, especially several models in the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5000 series of graphics cards. The GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card in particular comes with 24GB GDDR7 memory.Recently, Micron has announced that they have begun mass-producing 24Gb (3GB) GDDR7 memory, and although technically this memory is already on the market, Micron's memory also comes with an upgrade in terms of supporting faster data transfer rates at 36Gb/s.The existing 3GB GDDR7 memory chip comes with a speed of about 28Gbps, but with this latest chip, it is seen that the performance of future graphics or AI processor components can take advantage of this component even better.For example, the NVIDIA RTX 6000 Pro graphics card, which comes with 96GB of existing GDDR7 memory, has a data transfer speed of 1.8Tb/s, but if it uses Micron's new GDDR7 memory, that speed can be increased to 2.3Tb/s.The public expectation was that this memory should be present for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5000 Super series of graphics cards that were supposed to be announced earlier this year, but were canceled. We will likely see this memory in the next iteration of NVIDIA's consumer graphics cards, which is expected to be the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 6000 and various other AI processing components.In addition to Micron, Samsung has also come out with its own 3GB GDDR7 memory chips, each of which comes with a data transfer speed of 42Gb/s, which is already being used by many developers of data center components and AI technology.
