Which seals to replace in transfer case? (R32 GTR)

Some may remember I posted a while back about a wastegate hose failure leading to a turbo failure and an engine failure. After a protracted time the car's got a motor in it and it's running nicely. Well, OK, the motor is. I had the other fluid levels checked when I did an oil change about 500km after getting the car back. Lo and behold the transfer case is empty. f**k! I says. In goes 1.6L or so of fresh ATF (through the filler bung) - i.e. the thing was nearly empty. I've been driving the car a little since, maybe 50ks. Sure enough now there is a very small amount of ATF on the garage floor. Shit, I says. After doing a bit of research it seems there's a seal between transfer and gearbox that can go, meaning the transfer pumps its fluid into the gearbox. It seems like that might be a likely culprit. Or it's another seal somewhere. Below links refer. Couple questions though. One thread says box oil can get sucked into the transfer, one thread says transfer oil can get pumped into the box. Are both things that can happen or can it just go one way? I am guessing this is a gearbox out job - or is there a way to remove the transfer with the gearbox in the car? Any other tips for this other than to bend over and spread my wallet open again? :)
