R33 RB30e ignition timing issues

Hi all, in need of some help or advice with my rb30e swaped r33 using all 20e accessories. Car idles and revs fine but has no power and backfires when driving. When the motor is set to TDC and distributor stabbed to cylinder 1, I physically cannot set ignition base timing causing the car to not start unless dizzy is locked to 1 side full advanced (still not past TDC mark on crank pulley). The only way for me to set base timing correctly is by advancing the distributor 1 tooth when stabbing. The car idles and revs fine like this but has no power under load and backfires. I understand the 20e ecu and loom won’t have the correct fuel maps and tune for the 3L displacement but this shouldn’t affect the mechanical timing and why it’s out right? Any ideas appreciated!
