The trial that would have allowed athletes participating in the Olympic Games in France to swim the marathon course of the river Seine was canceled on Tuesday amid concerns about the quality of the water. World Aquatics, the international governing body for water sports competitions, made the decision to cancel the trial after an early morning meeting, the organization announced in a statement. Fluctuating levels of bacteria in the water have been a constant concern throughout the Olympics, with the swimming triathlon and marathon scheduled to be held on the Seine River. The event includes swimming, cycling and running. Another test for the marathon swim is scheduled for Wednesday and organizers will decide early that morning whether it will go ahead or not, the statement said. The women's race is scheduled for Thursday, while the men's race is scheduled for Friday. The cancellation of today's test comes a day after the men's and women's mixed triathlon, which took place yesterday on the river that runs through the center of the French capital.
