'Has he met Tim Walz?' Experts take down 'hilarious' Trump attack line

Former President Donald Trump's threat that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz would "unleash hell" if allowed to enter the White House spurred howls of laughter from experts who found his take "hilarious." Trump's apocalyptic response to Vice President Kamala Harris' choice of running mate — whom the convicted felon slammed for, among other things, supporting voting rights of convicted felons — had politicos asking a single question. "Trump campaign says the cat guy who called JD Vance 'weird' will unleash hell on earth," wrote Huffington Post senior political reporter Jennifer Bendery. "Has he met Tim Walz?" Trump's warning was issued in a fundraising email released minutes after Harris' pick was announced. Bendery shared a PSA video Walz made with his daughter explaining how to make old people stop using their phones while driving. "So the decided attack on Tim Walz — who is a veteran, a governor, a former congressman and a parent, among other things — is that he hates America and hates you?" Bendery wrote. "I think the Walz news just broke the Trump campaign." Sam Stein, managing editor of the Bulwark, said Trump's messaging made him laugh. Brittany Page, host of the political podcast "I Doubt It," said Trump's email made her anticipate with pleasure the prospect of hell on earth."I can’t wait for Tim Walz to unleash hell on Earth! Paid family and medical leave, child tax credit expansion, free meals for kids, expanded LGBTQ protections, tuition-free college for low-income students!" Page wrote. "GIVE US HELL!" Adam Peters, chair for the Iowa Stonewall Caucus for the Democratic Party, responded to the email blast with photos of a smiling Walz hugging what appears to be a sleeping piglet, tying a little girl's shoe and feeding his dog Scout what looks like ice cream. He was not alone in responding via photography. Vanity Fair correspondent Joe Hagan shared the moment Walz signed into law new legislation securing free breakfasts and lunches for Minnesota public school children.
