Ships in Red Sea Attacked 3 Times, Houthis Suspected

A Liberian-flagged oil tanker sailing in the Red Sea came under three attacks Tuesday, including one involving a bomb-laden drone, in what appeared to be the latest attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels linked to the Israel-Hamas war, officials said. The attack comes as the rebel group's main backer, Iran, considers possible retaliation against Israel for the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh last month in Tehran, Iran's capital. The Houthi offensive has disrupted the annual flow of about $1 trillion worth of goods along a maritime route vital to trade between Asia, Europe and the Middle East, and sparked the fiercest battle for the U.S. Navy since World War II. The Greek-run Delta Atlantica was first attacked after two bombs exploded nearby, according to the Joint Maritime Information Center, a multinational force overseen by the U.S. Navy. A small boat “flashed its lights” approached the Greek-bound tanker during the incident, the center said. A small boat then turned on its lights in the Delta Atlantica before another explosion occurred nearby, they said.
