GOP mayor tells DNC his party has been 'kidnapped by extremists'

A Republican mayor joined a few other Republicans on Tuesday night in supporting Kamala Harris for president, and in doing so, accused his party of being "kidnapped" by extremists — and of turning into a cult.John Giles, the Republican mayor of Mesa, once again gave a rousing speech to Democrats denouncing his longtime party's direction under the MAGA leader.Giles joked to the crowd that he's a "lifelong Republican" and felt "a little out of place" at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Even so, he said he feels "more at home here than in today's Republican party." The mayor compared him to a petulant child."Like a child, he acts purely out of self-interest," said Giles. "We all need an adult in the White House. And we've seen what happens when we don't have one."Giles delivered a direct message to Americans like him, who are in the "political middle" this year. "John McCain's Republican Party is gone and we don't owe a d--- thing to what's been left behind," he said. Giles finished by calling for putting the country first and turning the page.
