Trump campaign under threat of 'digital war' from far-right influencers

As if Donald Trump's presidential campaign doesn't have enough problems as Vice President Kamala Harris races past him in the polls with the presidential election less than 80 days away, he now faces the threat of a "war" coming from the far-right unhappy that he isn't catering to their demands that he adopt more of their positions.According to a report from the Washington Post, far-right influencers like extremist Nick Fuentes are telling their followers to "bedevil" the Trump campaign for change with threats of a "digital war" and the possible withholding of their votes in November. As the Post's Drew Harwell reported, "The insider attacks, which come as other backers are calling for Trump to take a more disciplined, policy-oriented approach to his campaign, highlight a new vulnerability in one of the loudest corners of Trump’s nationwide base," adding, "With millions of followers, the far-right provocateurs have long been one of the most reliable engines for winning Trump attention online, helping to build the viral energy that boosted his political career and his strong lead among predominantly White male voters."ALSO READ: Donald Trump deep in debt while foreign money keeps coming: disclosureHowever, with Trump fading in the polls, extremists like Fuentes insist that the former president's campaign is too blame for trying to gain traction with moderate voters instead of sticking by far-right positions. That has created a rift with other far-right influencers who are sticking by Trump.Podcaster Candace Owen recently devoted time to complaining about the “MAGA Civil War” roiling the waters, lamenting, "I’m just not sure who is driving the MAGA bus anymore. You’re losing that support from the people that believed in you. … You need those people.”RELATED: 'Dump those traitors': MAGA fans revolt and demand Trump fire top campaign managersAccording to Ben Lorber, a senior researcher at Political Research Associates, far-right influencers have a knack for "punching above their weight" successfully which puts the Trump campaign in a corner.“This movement has the ability to move conservative discourse and to open up space far to the right of acceptable conservative opinion for people like Trump to move further rightward,” Lorber observed. As for Fuentes, he is willing to risk a Trump loss in November.“If they blame me for Trump losing, so be it,” he explained. “He’ll have lost because he stopped talking to the MAGA base he had in 2016.”You can read more here.
