'Let's be real: He lost in '20': GOP lawmakers waving white flag on Trump comeback

Reflecting on the state of Donald Trump's re-election bid that is reportedly in the midst of a collapse since Vice President Kamala Harris became the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, multiple GOP lawmakers are admitting reclaiming the Oval Office might be a lost cause.In interviews with Reese Gorman of NOTUS, Republican lawmakers pointed the finger at the former president's unfocused campaign that is heavy on personal attacks and light on hitting upon topics voters have expressed concerns about.As the Trump campaign undergoes a shake-up with the addition of former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and other 2016 campaign officials signing up again, one Republican officeholder claimed that a replay of 2016 is not going to help in 2024.ALSO READ: Donald Trump deep in debt while foreign money keeps coming: disclosureSpeaking with Gorman a House Republican admitted, "He’s rattled and needs to get on message,” before adding, "Life’s too hard for too many; the border was left open; and everyone is paying too much for too little.”According to the NOTUS report, "Trump’s insistence on making the presidential race about things like laughs instead of the economy — personal grievances rather than policy disagreements — is just the latest evidence that Trump will always be Trump," which led another GOP congressman to concede, "Let’s be real: He lost in ’20.”Elaborating on that point, they added, “He has a solid base but has done nothing, or worse, alienated anyone from coming back to him. It’s like the sixth or seventh season of a show that was once funny but now panders to his base. If he continues down this road and Harris stays her course and the economy starts to show signs of improvement, he will be a two-time loser.”Singling out Trump's recent attacks on Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) as "extremely foolish,” another Republican observed, "This is his race to lose, and he’s shooting himself in the foot.
