Visiting Warsaw, Indian PM Urges End to Ukraine War

Warsaw — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine during a visit to Poland on Thursday, pledging India's support and saying no conflict can be resolved on the battlefield. “We support dialogue and diplomatic efforts” for the restoration of peace and stability “as soon as possible,” Modi said after talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Tusk said India could play a key role in ending the war in Ukraine, which lies on the other side of Poland's eastern border, waged by Russia, India's strategic partner. “I am very pleased that the prime minister has confirmed his readiness to be personally involved in ending the war peacefully, justly and swiftly,” Tusk said. He added that “history teaches nations how important it is to respect rules, borders, territorial integrity, state sovereignty and the rule of law.” Poland, which sits on the eastern side of NATO and the European Union, is deeply concerned about the two-year-old war on its eastern border, and has offered political, humanitarian and defense support to Ukraine.
