In Kotor, Montenegro, residents are worried about the high number of tourists. They say that their life is increasingly difficult during the tourist season, while the small town, according to experts, lacks infrastructure, causing the streets to have heavy traffic. The town of Kotor in Montenegro, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located within the picturesque bay of the Adriatic, is facing a high number of tourists during the summer, causing heavy traffic on the roads. While parts of the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale were filmed in the city, authorities now say Kotor is overwhelmed by the influx of tourists and cruise ships. Tourism contributes approximately a quarter of Montenegro's economic output, with revenues accounting for 24.5% of Gross Domestic Product in 2022. However, residents say that their life is increasingly difficult during the tourist season. “There are many people in the city. There are huge crowds everywhere, many tour guides leading groups of tourists. In addition, there is no parking and this causes massive traffic jams”, says Doris Dajkovic, a resident of Kotor.
