Meeting US Ambassador, Prabowo Thanks for Defense Cooperation

Strengthening relations between Indonesia and the United States (US), especially in the field of education and training of personnel, both civilian and military, was one of the topics discussed when Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto received a visit from the US Ambassador to Indonesia, Kamala Shirin Lakhdir, at the office of the Ministry of Defense, in Jakarta, Thursday (8/8). Before becoming the new US Ambassador to Indonesia, Kamala Shirin Lakhdir had served in Indonesia from 1994-1996. The meeting with Prabowo Subianto, who is also Indonesia’s president-elect, came just hours after Ambassador Kamala presented her credentials to President Joko Widodo at the Merdeka Palace. Speaking after the presentation, Kamala expressed her pride in being in Indonesia, “especially as the US and Indonesia celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations today.” In a press statement received by VOA from the Indonesian Presidential Palace, Kamala said, “We (the US-Indonesia.ed) have just signed a comprehensive strategic partnership. So my focus and my team's focus is to expand and strengthen, and build relationships across all sectors and we have a lot of history to build on.
