Algerian boxer Imane Khelif won gold in the women's 66kg event at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday (9/8). Khelif managed to beat China's Yang Liu 5-0 in the women's welterweight final, which was the high point of her boxing career. She is the only gold medalist in the history of Algerian women's boxing. After almost 30 years of absence, Algerian boxing finally won its second gold through Khelif. His name was also praised in his homeland — his face became a mural and his actions were broadcast on big screens. “This has been my dream for 8 years, and now I am an Olympic champion and a gold medalist,” said Khelif. Khelif's name skyrocketed during his time in Paris. His first opponent, Angela Carini of Italy, was defeated after just 46 seconds of the match. Carini admitted to feeling pain from Khelif's blows.
