'We can't believe him': Trump campaign hack questioned by former RNC official

Reacting to the details released so far from Donald Trump's campaign that it was hacked weeks ago, a former chair of the Republican National Committee wasn't buying it on Sunday morning and claimed a lot of questions need to be answered. On MSNBC's "The Weekend," ex-RNC chair Michael Steele was adamant that, given Trump's history, everything that comes from his people should be taken with a grain of salt.Saturday afternoon Politico published a statement from Trump spokesperson Steve Cheung, claiming, "These documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources hostile to the United States, intended to interfere with the 2024 election and sow chaos throughout our Democratic process,. On Friday, a new report from Microsoft found that Iranian hackers broke into the account of a ‘high ranking official’ on the U.S. presidential campaign in June 2024, which coincides with the close timing of President Trump’s selection of a vice presidential nominee.”MSNBC panelist Ex-Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) was first to weigh in and pointed out it was merely a "claim" from the Trump people and, as such, should face intense scrutiny.ALSO READ: Tim Walz's personal finances are extraordinarily boring — and that may help Harris"'Claimed," he repeated. "I don't want to be the guy at the table, but I will be the person at the table: the Trump administration claimed they were hacked. Everyone's initial reaction should be, 'We can't believe him, we can't believe them,' and that is their fault. You can't believe anything that comes out of Donald Trump's mouth. This is serious business, but I want to verify first.""It's too specific for me," Steele interjected."I just want to back up and be clear, we know that some anonymous person, named Robert, okay, was peddling internal information from the Trump campaign," "The Weekend co-host Symone Sanders Townsend remarked. "So, while we have not-- as NBC News hasn't independently verify that it was in fact, Iran, we don't know that somehow some internal documents got out, so what are we skeptical about?""The origin of the hack," Steele shot back. "I mean, I can hack myself if I want. I mean, I agree with Joe. I'm sorry, this is a space that has been created by him and now I'm just supposed to fall down believing because he says he was hacked by Iranians with such specificity when nobody else in government or elsewhere can verify that?""I hear you and I understand what you're saying, but at the end of the day, this is the environment Donald Trump has created. So now, if I show skepticism or Joe shows skepticism, don't come at me, because you remember Russia, Russia, Russia?" he added.Watch below or at the link. — (@)
