What Will Happen to 'Obamacare' Under the New President of the United States?

Optometrist Taja Dove is one of the estimated 25 million Americans who don’t have health insurance. She’s exploring coverage options and doesn’t want to go without again. “I might get sick, but I’ll say, ‘Oh, it’s nothing serious. It’s a cold.’ So, I might try to put it off because I know I don’t have the health insurance to pay for it if I have to go to the hospital,” Taja Dove explained. The ACA, the low-cost health care law, was passed in 2010 under the Obama administration. The health care reform law is credited with helping cut the number of non-elderly Americans without health care by nearly half, according to health policy organization KFF. Cynthia Cox, KFF’s vice president and program director at the ACA, said via Skype that the ACA “created some new markets for health care that didn’t exist before. So people could buy it and get federal subsidies to make it more affordable.” As of last March, 21 million Americans had access to health care through the ACA marketplaces.
