Hamas Urges US to Pressure Israel to Reach Ceasefire

Gaza Strip, Palestinian Territories — Hamas on Thursday called on the United States to “put real pressure” on Israel to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denied the two sides were working on a deal. Both sides blame each other for the stalled ceasefire and hostage exchange talks as Netanyahu faces pressure to reach a deal following the deaths of six Gaza hostages. Qatar-based Hamas chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya called on the United States to “put real pressure on Netanyahu and his government” and “leave their blind bias” against Israel. But Netanyahu said “no agreement has been reached.” “Unfortunately, that has not been achieved, but we will do everything we can to get them to the point where they make a deal,” he told US media. Netanyahu insisted that Israel must maintain control of the Philadelphia Corridor along the Egypt-Gaza border to prevent arms smuggling to Hamas, whose Oct. 7 attack on Israel sparked the war.
