President Biden Marks Birth of Americans with Disabilities Act

US President Joe Biden commemorated the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act on the South Lawn of the White House on Monday (9/9) afternoon. “Thirty-four years ago, President George H.W. Bush signed into law the Americans with Disabilities Act, proving that we could work together on a bipartisan basis to ensure the American dream worked for all of us, not just some of us. We need to get back to that,” Biden said. Biden was introduced by Neil McDevitt, the first deaf person elected as mayor in the United States. He represents North Wales, a region in the state of Pennsylvania. Mayor McDevitt said there was a “direct connection” between his time as mayor and the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990. President Biden also recognized Team USA at the Summer Paralympics in Paris as an example that “the promise of America is for all Americans.” (the/s)
