Kentucky Highway Shooting: Suspect Still at Large After Injuring 7

Kentucky state police were searching rugged terrain near a national forest for a suspect in a shooting on a rural interstate highway, officials said Saturday night, after seven people were wounded in the shooting. The incident began just before 6 p.m. local time (around 5 a.m. WIB, Sunday, September 8-ed.). The shooting occurred about nine miles outside of London, when officers responded to reports of shots fired at vehicles on Interstate 75 in Laurel County. According to local media reports, the shots came from a wooded area or overpass. London Mayor Randall Weddle said in a statement posted to Facebook that seven people were injured, including some who were shot. Weddle said he was not aware of any fatalities in the shooting. Police did not provide further details on the number or nature of the victims. London is a small town of about 8,000 near the Daniel Boone National Forest, about 90 miles (145 km) south of Lexington. Weddle asked everyone in the area to “lock their doors while the person is at large.” The shooting comes days after two students and two teachers were killed, and nine others were wounded, at a middle school in Winder, Georgia.
