Kim Jong Un Highlights Importance of Strengthening Navy

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un underlined the importance of strengthening naval capabilities as he visited a naval base construction site, state media said. KCNA reported on Sunday (8/9). “We will soon have large surface warships and submarines that cannot be moored at existing facilities, so building a naval base to operate the latest warships is an urgent priority,” Kim said. During the visit, Kim stressed the need to build a naval port that can operate warship weapons systems. He revealed military measures to deploy anti-aircraft and coastal defense systems to protect the port, the report said. Kim cited the geopolitical advantages of the location for the country, which borders the sea on its east and west. The report did not specify the location.
