Israel announced on Thursday that it was revoking the press credentials of four Al Jazeera journalists working in the country. “This is a media outlet that spreads false content, which incites Israelis and Jews and is a threat to the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces, IDF,” said Government Press Office Director Nitzan Chen in a statement. Journalists in Israel are not required to have press cards issued by the Government Press Office, but without them it is difficult to access parliament or government ministries. The statement said the use of the cards by Al Jazeera journalists could “endanger state security at this time of martial law.” The four full-time Al Jazeera journalists are either Israeli citizens or Palestinian residents of annexed east Jerusalem, according to the news agency. AFP. Al Jazeera's remaining staff, including video producers and photographers, are allowed to work there because the government considers them not actively producing content. Al Jazeera did not immediately respond to VOA's email seeking comment.
