Egyptian Company Turns Plastic Waste Into Building Materials

Workers are busy on the production line. They are making tiles for the construction industry. However, if you look closely, you will see that the machines are filled with an unusual material: plastic waste. This is TileGreen, a three-year-old Egyptian startup, whose founders have developed a new technology to turn plastic waste scraps into cement-free tiles. Khaled Raafat is a co-founder and chief technology officer at TileGreen. “We create technologies and industrial processes, with which we transform all forms of plastic waste, especially low-value ones, into building materials,” says Khaled Raafat. He added, “We produce a material called polymer aggregate composite, where we mix plastic waste with natural aggregates like sand and gravel to create a concrete substitute.
