From Asia to Europe by Walking on a Rope

An Estonian man on Sunday night walked along a tightrope stretched across the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul, covering a distance of 1,074 meters (3,300 feet), reaching from Asia to Europe. Jaan Roose said traffic on the bridge below, as well as the sound of planes and helicopters overhead, were distractions during the 47-minute journey on a rope strung between the legs of the bridge, 165 meters above sea level. (KEMAL ASLAN / AFP) “In an urban environment, it's always harder to walk a tightrope than in nature,” he said, adding that he tries to stay focused on his steps. “There were times when I needed to rest my arms because they were starting to cramp up and during that time I also got to see the Old City and the beautiful views of Istanbul,” Roose said, adding that it was “unique” that he was walking from Asia to Europe on a tightrope.
