MAGA congressman: Harris should nix Project 2025 ads in swing states for Trump's safety

In the wake of the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, his allies are once again demanding that Democrats stop calling Trump a "threat to democracy," claiming this incites violence.But Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) took it a step further in a Fox News interview on Monday: he demanded Vice President Kamala Harris take down any campaign ad mentioning Project 2025, an unpopular policy framework linked to the former president."Congressman, do you think Kamala's issued statement, what she said, 'there's no place for violence in America,' or she's glad Donald Trump's safe? Was that sufficient?" asked anchor Laura Ingraham."No," said Donalds. "What she should do is go through all the ad campaigns that they're running in the battleground states, anything that references being destructive of democracy, and all the other tropes and the lies, Project 2025, all that stuff, it should come down."ALSO READ: Behind the legal tactics Trump is using to dodge justice for January 6Project 2025, conceived by the far-right Heritage Foundation, calls for a sweeping transformation of the federal government, undoing civil service protections, allowing Trump to have full control of independent agencies, and advocating the widespread abolition or cutback of numerous federal programs ranging from Social Security and Medicare, to racial equity programs, to public transit grants, to the National Weather Service, to support for military families. The document also calls for enshrining Christian nationalism in law, and organized a pre-vetted list of right-wing candidates for powerful administrative positions.As the whole plan became more widely known to voters, it triggered massive backlash, which ultimately led to Trump distancing himself and proclaiming he has nothing to do with it despite his close work with the Heritage Foundation and many of his former administration officials helping to write key portions of it.
