Iran Launches Second Satellite Into Orbit This Year

Iran successfully launched a research satellite into orbit on Saturday (September 14) using a rocket developed by the Revolutionary Guards, state media reported. The launch comes amid accusations by the United States and European countries that Iran has transferred ballistic missiles to Russia, potentially for use in the war in Ukraine in the coming weeks. Iran denies the allegations. The Chamran-1 satellite was carried into space by a Qaem-100 rocket. It was placed in orbit at an altitude of 550 kilometers, and its first signal has been received. The media also reported that the solid-fuel rocket was designed and built by the Revolutionary Guards Air Force. The 60-kilogram satellite's main mission is to “test hardware and software systems to demonstrate orbital maneuvering technology at various altitudes and phases,” state media reported. The “Chamran-1” satellite is seen at an undisclosed location in Iran, Sept. 14, 2024.
