Myanmar Junta Asks for Foreign Help to Tackle Flood Disaster

Myanmar's junta leader on Saturday made an unusual appeal to the international community for help in dealing with floods that have displaced hundreds of thousands of people who have survived three years of war. Floods and landslides killed nearly 300 people in Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand as Typhoon Yagi brought heavy rains as it swept through the region over the weekend. In Myanmar, more than 235,000 people have been forced to flee their homes due to flooding, the junta said Friday, adding further suffering to a country where war has raged since the military seized power in 2021.
