Miniature Hippo Goes Viral at Thailand Zoo

The morning sun glinted off Moo Deng’s smooth skin. The miniature hippo was seen lying on the ground in his enclosure, looking relaxed despite his skyrocketing popularity on social media. The two-month-old baby elephant went viral this week after its handler shared a video of it on TikTok and Instagram, live from Thailand's Chon Buri Zoo. His mischievous and humorous expressions have been watched millions of times, successfully captivating thousands of visitors who want to witness his antics live. Moo Deng—which means “soft pork” in Thai, a popular snack there—has now inadvertently become an icon for the endangered miniature hippopotamus.
