Quaker Valley baseball, Sewickley Academy softball win rivalry games

Quaker Valley stepped outside of section play April 30 and “traveled” to an away game against a Class A opponent, rival Sewickley Academy. Despite a late-game charge by the home team, QV prevailed to win a hard-fought 11-9 decision. The Quakers held leads of 5-2, 6-4 and 11-5 before Sewickley rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh. QV was led by sophomore first baseman Mike Semonik, who went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. He also scored twice. Sophomore right fielder Holden Kirkham had two hits...
