Iran Urges Russia To Expedite Implementation Of Strategic Cooperation Pact

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed Tehran’s firm determination to implement the comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement with Russia, calling on Moscow to accelerate the execution of the commitments outlined in the pact. During his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the International Forum of Peace and Trust in Turkmenistan on Friday, Pezeshkian voiced satisfaction with the strong and expanding relations between Tehran and Moscow and thanked Russia for supporting Iran in the international fora. Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s resolve to put into action the strategic cooperation agreement signed between the two countries, saying Tehran is committed to fully implementing the deal. He noted that joint cooperation --particularly in the fields of power-plant projects, transportation, and transit corridors-- is actively moving forward, adding that Iran will complete the groundwork for full implementation of the corridor project by the end of the year. Iran expects the Russian side to accelerate and finalize the execution of the bilateral agreements. Pezeshkian stated. Highlighting the importance of developing the North-South and East-West corridors, Pezeshkian said work on those routes is progressing rapidly and stressed that Putin’s directives would further speed up the implementation of these significant and strategic projects. The president further described agricultural cooperation between Iran and Russia as highly beneficial and said the model can be expanded to other sectors as well. He emphasized that the two countries have no choice but to strengthen joint cooperation, especially through international and regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, in order to counter unilateralism. Putin, for his part, welcomed the meeting and described the signing of the comprehensive strategic cooperation pact as a milestone in bilateral relations and a highly significant development. He pointed to the very positive trajectory of Iran-Russia ties, noting that bilateral trade increased by 13 percent last year and by 8 percent in the first nine months of this year. Putin said joint cooperation in power-plant construction and corridor infrastructure will continue, and that both sides are examining cooperation on gas and electricity transfer to Iran. Putin added that the two countries maintain close contact and coordination on international issues, stressing that Russia has always supported Iran at the United Nations and will continue to do so.
