Fast-charging electric vehicle station opens on Yampa Street

Shoppers, diners and visitors to the downtown Steamboat Springs area — whether driving their own electric vehicle, a rental EV or a plug-in hybrid — have a Christmas present to unwrap this week. A new, publicly located level 3 fast EV charging station opened Friday on Yampa and 10th streets, installed through Denver-based electric vehicle charging company Helios and located on a city easement. The $300,000 total installation project for the fastest-level charger was two years in the making. The project was funded by a $100,000 Colorado Energy Office grant, which covered a necessary $50,000 upgrade to a transformer completed by Yampa Valley Electric Association, explained Daniel Benhammou,...
