Arctic front brings dangerously low temps: Things you should know

An arctic front will bring frigid temperatures and wind chills — and associated dangers — to the area this week. A cold weather advisory will be in effect from 10 p.m. Monday until 10 a.m. Tuesday for much of the region, including Lackawanna and Luzerne counties. The front will push through in the evening and will produce temperatures hovering around zero by the overnight hours, said Jake Chalupsky, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Binghamton, New York. “The Wyoming Valley will be somewhat sheltered, with the lower-end winds expected through the overnight hours.
