Astronomers on Cloud-9 after discovery of strange new cosmic object

A team of astronomers are, in a manner of speaking, on cloud nine after discovering a never-before-seen astronomical object in the distant universe. The starless cloud composed of dark matter, nicknamed Cloud-9 for reasons we'll get to below, is a galaxy that failed to form in the ancient universe, NASA said in a January press release announcing the discovery. It's likely the strange cosmic cloud, which astronomers believe wasn't able to accumulate enough gas to form stars, is one of many other small failed galaxies in the universe now dominated by dark matter, according to researchers.
