Chinese scientists have developed a low-cost, eco-friendly rare-earth pigment that addresses problems associated with traditional pigments, such as toxicity and environmental pollution, and is expected to lead the next generation of pigment technology, the Science and Technology Daily reported on Monday. In order to enhance color durability, industrial pigments may contain trace heavy metals such as lead, cadmium and mercury.
